Hurricane Katrina

I've been a broken angel and a lost girl, I've been a thief and a hero, I've been a victim and a survivor, I've walked the lonely streets and heard the call of the blues. I'm sometimes called "Bad Kat," but more often its just that Damn Kat. I was there when god turned his eyes away, when the rain hammered down, when the wind screamed the death of my city. I was there too when my city rose from the dirty waters and lived again. Though once broken my wings have healed. Though once unwanted, now I am loved. though I may once again walk through the valley of death, - I'll do it with a grin on my lips and a skip to my step.

It's not just soldiers and marines who struggle with PTSD, survivors do too.

I didn't make it to the the Superdome, I was holed up on the edge of Treme' when the dark waters came and a soulless wind screamed in the night.
